Principal Structural Engineer


We are seeking a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer for our client based in Hull.  The role can be offered on a permanent or contract basis with excellent salary and benefits.


The Principal Civil/Structural Engineer will have responsibility, authority and accountability for the successful execution of all civil and structural engineering activities on assigned projects.

The Principal Civil/Structural Engineer you must manage projects, civil/structural staff and/or civil/structural engineering subcontracts in a safe and productive manner, deliver projects or packages on time, in line with all contract specifications, achieve full client satisfaction and meet all quality and commercial key performance indicators (KPI's), whilst maintaining good relationships with all stakeholders and colleagues.


Work Planning & Organisation

  • Plan the works on your projects to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity, producing SMART briefs for other engineers and technicians and providing clear direction and advice when required.
  • Ensure all engineering and design documentation is correctly produced in accordance with company and client procedures and securely filed, being submitted to the client within contract timescales.
  • Compile and issue all necessary cost and schedule progress reports in line with company procedures, and take action in a timely manner to correct any issues likely to compromise achievement of required KPI's or client satisfaction.
  • Implement any instructions given by his/her engineering manager or engineering director.

Commercial and Risk

  • Assist all other senior managers within the company to achieve better commercial performance across all divisions.
  • Ensure that the company's commercial position is not compromised at any time during project or engineering package delivery. Full adherence is required to all company statutory financial controls and procedures, and also any project specific procedures that may be required under the Contract.
  • Ensure that the contract is scheduled in accordance with both the contract and client requirements.


  • Work within the company's ISO9001:2008 quality systems, ensuring all engineering and design activities are supplied to meet the Contract's requirements, including all appropriate contract specifications and quality plans.


  • Responsible for the day-to-day care and security of all assigned resources.
  • Mentoring, coaching and identification of up-skilling and/or development of key individuals

Technical Requirements

  • Ability to perform the role as a Civil/Structural Design Engineer in terms of originating, checking and approving and, if necessary, personally deliver the engineering requirement for all stages of a project.
  • Keep up with latest industry standards, technology and norms within the Rail, Energy, Industrial and General Construction sectors.
  • Represent the company as an expert in civil and structural engineering.
  • Act formally in the role of CRE for Network Rail (or equivalent).

Person Specification

  • Practical knowledge of design to Eurocodes in Concrete, Steelwork, Masonry and Timber.
  • Competent use of one or more of the following StaadPro, Tekla Structures or Autodesk Robot
  • Experience of acting  formally in the role of CRE for Network Rail (or equivalent)
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Prioritising projects and related tasks.
  • Budget monitoring.
  • Risk Assessments, Health and Safety.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant professional Degree or vocational qualification.
  • Preferably Chartered Engineer with ICE or IStructE.
  • Extensive experience within the Rail, Energy, Industrial and General Construction sectors with significant success in leading teams of engineers and technicians.
  • Must be fully conversant with all current civil/structural and HSE legislation appropriate to the Rail, Energy, Industrial and General construction sectors, and a comprehensive understanding of quality systems to ISO 9001 standards

Technical Author


We are currently recruiting a Technical Author for our client in Dungeness.  This is a permanent position, working (37 hours per week) Monday to Friday.

To perform technical author duties for the collation of information, make editorial and document updates and produce reports.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with engineers to collate all necessary information and evidence as directed
  • Review existing information and propose / submit changes for approval as required
  • Continuous updates to controlled documents
  • Submission of controlled documents for approval
  • Production and distribution of reports
  • Data entry to local recording and reporting tools
  • Transfer of existing documentation content to new templates
  • Compiling documentation from draft content
  • Editorial QA as directed
  • Follow local procedures for the control and flow of work
  • Use the company Management System (AMS / CDMS) to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Use of client Controlled Document Management Systems (CDMS)
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with company safety and quality culture

  • HNC in an engineering subject
  • Preferably Degree qualified in an engineering subject
  • General knowledge of plant operations & Nuclear plant engineering


  • Previous experience of working on an Operational Nuclear Power station
  • Previous experience of using computers e.g. input/retrieval/interrogation of data.
  • Experience of using a variety of software packages such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Experience of working in a secure confidential environment
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates the ability to use own initiative and judgement in the interpretation of data/information
  • Has the ability to liaise with people at all levels both internal and external to the organisation

Maintenance Planner


We are currently recruiting a Maintenance Planner for our client in Hull.  This is an urgent requirement for an initial 12 month position, with the possibility of it being extended.  This will be working full time (37 hours per week) Monday to Friday.


Preparation and production of data input work packs from project and repair work packs. Ready for input to SAP PM. Validate and ensure all relevant information and data is applied to new and replaced equipment.


Execute assigned personal objectives with direct guidance and supervision

Adhere to and comply with relevant discipline specific OMS and client procedures in execution of work activities. Provide feedback for continuous improvement of aforementioned procedures, if applicable

Ensure self awareness of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology developments

Clearly communicate any identified improvements to service execution to Technical Manager

Production of data input work packs by review of project and repair packs, identifying new / replacement / redundant equipment.

Populate SAP data upload templates by capture of changes to Functional Locations and Assets, hierarchal equipment asset structures and associated required technical details, in accordance with applicable procedures.

Determine correct maintenance requirements for functional locations from existing maintenance plans or identify if new ones are required.

Review performance standards and maintenance plans to ensure sufficient coverage for new / replacement equipment.

Additional tasks as may be required by the client


Minimum Qualifications:

BSc, B.Eng, HNC, HND or equivalent in applicable maintenance discipline


NVQ or equivalent trade based qualification with suitable experience in maintenance

Minimum Experience:

Demonstrable balance of industrial experience at relevant level and position

SAP experience (minimum of five years)
